Yahoo Aims to “Get Its Cool Back”
By Chris Weiss
Remember back in those infant days of the Internet, when Yahoo! was just the shiznit? Then players like Google, Twitter and Facebook came along and kind of left Yahoo in the past. You can still check in for couple of minutes to read your emails and skim over an interesting headline, but after that, you just really don’t want to hang out for long.
Well, like an aging former college star running back, Yahoo is determined to “bring the cool back.” Company execs unveiled their three-year plan toward that end today.
Key to keeping pace with the Internet, is streamlining its release procedures and getting improvements out faster than before. Such improved products include a faster, more socially-integrated, less spammy Yahoo mail; a new Yahoo search layout; and, of course, a Yahoo iPad app.
Will Yahoo! once again be one of the cool kids of the Internet, or will it look more like an embarrassing father trying to relive his heyday in the midst of a mid-life crisis? We’ll see how it plays out over the next three years. [via VentureBeat]
