trojan Wiretap Trojan Targeting Skype, Allows Eavesdropping

You might want to reconsider what kind of dirty whatnots that you whisper to your long-distance flame over Skype. Despite Skype’s staunch reputation for solid encryption that prevents any chance of someone hacking into your conversation, a new ‘wiretap Trojan virus’ has been identified that could do just that. Of course, the vulnerability has nothing to do with Skype; the Peskyspy Trojan horse hits Microsoft’s audio drivers,  thereby allowing for the listening and recording of Skype calls prior to encryption. With a reported 300,000 users each day, it’d be quite difficult for anyone to garner anything that interesting from the VoIP calls, and so far experts have minimized the threat, but it wouldn’t hurt to bulk up on your virus protection. If you’re a Skype user, check out the full report from Symantec or Skype’s own discussion. [via Switched] [Picture: ccarlstead]
