Whose “Pod” Is It, Anyway? Apple Says “Ours”

Makers of tech products with the word “pod” in them, take note: Apple doesn’t like it. Two years ago, Apple tried to block the trademark for a video projector called “Video Pod,” and since then creator Daniel Kokin has been putting up a fight. So far, it’s working, as a judge denied Apple’s motion for summary judgement, ruling that another judge must make the final decision after hearing from both sides. Apple had previously taken action against TightPod, a maker of protective notebook covers, forcing the company to change its name. Another start-up, called PodShow, was targeted by Apple but eventually changed its name for different reasons. Personally, I think it’s the “i” that distinguishes Apple’s products, but that’s a tough letter to lock down. [via Wired]
