Walmart Nixing Vudu Adult Content
By Chris Weiss
It’s really been a roller-coaster week for porn fanatics. Earlier today, we saw new hope for iPhone porn in the form of an adult section for the App Store. That came after Apple removed some 5,000 adult apps from the store. Before porn fans could fully contemplate that potential victory, we get word that Walmart will be pulling all adult content from Internet streaming service Vudu, after purchasing the company just days ago. Vudu is sending an email to ‘After Dark’ partners explaining that the adult section will be discontinued in the coming days.
The move marks a real loss for adult film lovers. Vudu was the only major streaming service that stocked adult content, meaning that you may actually have to go back to back-room hard-copy rentals. What good is a streaming service if it doesn’t offer you the ability to enjoy porn without having to look a store clerk–or mailman–in the eye. When it came to discretion, Vudu even offered billing without naming the movie titles, so others…say a wife or girlfriend whose name the bill was under…wouldn’t need to find out about your secret Tuesday evening.
However unfortunate for After Dark renters, it’s not that surprising since Walmart does not stock any form of adult content in its retail stores. [via TechCrunch]
