Verizon Prepares for the Possibility of the IPhone
Dec 18, 2009 - By Chris Weiss
There’s no official word that Apple will drop AT&T as the exclusive carrier for the iPhone–just millions of clamoring iPhone users begging for a change–but Verizon is getting ready to handle the iPhone just in case. Anyone with an iPhone has probably thrown out an unrepeatable flurry of expletives at both AT&T, for their sub-par service, and Apple, for making the iPhone a exclusive AT&T territory. Indeed, AT&T has often looked like an unsuspecting hillbilly lottery winner–excited for the lucrative opportunity but completely unprepared and clumsy when actually handling it.
Verizon is busy preparing with upgrades for the huge surge in network data and phone traffic that would ensue should iPhones become Verizon-ready. Verizon is already lauded for its quality service and recently took home the top spot in a Consumer Reports satisfaction survey. AT&T brought in last place.
Hmmm…we wonder how Verizon’s 3G coverage stacks up against AT&T’s?
We’ll see if Apple takes advantage of Verizon’s willing-and-ableness to carry the iPhone or if it leaves it hanging there feeling silly.
In the meantime, what do you iPhone users out there think? Do you welcome the opportunity for a Verizon iPhone experience or will the break-up with Luke Wilson be too messy to enjoy the rebound? [via Business Week]

Sounds great but they would need a CDMA version of the iPhone which I'm sure we would have heard about getting built if one were really being made. Sounds very doubtful that Verizon will have the iPhone anytime soon..IMO…

I think it would screw up all the marketing for the phones verizon has made to compete with the iphone. If Verizon thinks ot would work and apple says that verizon is a good enough company to handle and agree with…….then lets do it. I have always wanted an iphone

Currently the coverage area for AT&T is so slim that once you get out of a coverage area the IPone really sucks. I think that with going to a Verizon network that Apple will see an increase in users for the iPhone.

I can see it happening… Apple posted up Engineering positions for technologies such as CDMA… unless someone can point me to the other products that would use this technology. My iPhone I love, AT&T I hate (I've been mulling over terminating my contract with them early as I just can't handle having a great but useless brick that can't connect to damn near anything except for wifi)
