Use of Google Chrome Web Browser Grows, Passes Safari
By Chris Weiss2010 is a year in which we’ll have to keep a constant an eye on the unfolding saga of competition and friction between mega-corporations Google and Apple. With the Nexus One set to launch tomorrow and other major products like the Apple Tablet and Chrome OS coming in the future, the two companies promise to provide plenty of drama and intrigue in the electronics world throughout the course of the year.
Foreshadowing Google’s potential gains in the greater world of software and consumer electronics, the company’s Chrome Web browser made steady gains in December and moved past Apple’s Safari in terms of users. The browser was helped out by the early-December launch of Chrome on Mac and Linux systems and increased from the 3.93 percent of the market it enjoyed in November to 4.63 percent. Safari held 4.46 percent, up from 4.36 a month earlier. The data comes from Net Applications.
The month-to-month jump marks the largest for Chrome since it was launched on Windows in September 2008. [via eWeek]
