Toshiba’s Take On Tablets: Libretto Dual-Touch Netbook Concept
By Chris Weiss
Why settle for one touchscreen when you can have two? That’s the tact that Toshiba has decided to take in creating a tablet-meets-netbook concept called the Libretto W100. This interesting device is positioned as a “next-gen ultra-mobile PC” and features dual 7-inch multitouch displays. In other words, it’s basically a netbook with a display in place of a keyboard. The two screens are designed to give the user extra flexibility and can be used together or separately. The device is positioned at multimedia and Web surfing. While users will undoubtedly miss the physical keyboard, the Libretto features six distinct keyboard options with haptic feedback.
Hardware-wise, Toshiba has stocked the Libretto with an Intel Pentium U5400 1.2 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, 62 GB solid-state drive, one-megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, and micro-SD card slot. Windows 7 Home Premium is the OS of choice. It weighs just 1.8 lbs and measures in at 4.84″ x 7.95 “.
Though it’s called a concept, Toshiba will be making the Libretto W100 available in limited numbers later this summer. The price will be $1,100–kind of expensive for a netbook/tablet device, but I guess it’s more of niche device that’s not priced for the mass market. [via BGR and Gizmodo]
