Toshiba Joins Blu-ray Association

Joining the enemy after waging a short but spirited war has got to be a tough loaf to swallow. But I guess completely abandoning the battleground after gaining nothing is even more difficult to palate. Toshiba, the main backer of HD DVD technology, has officially announced that it will join the Blu-ray Disc Association and pledge its allegiance with its once-rival. Toshiba plans on manufacturing and shipping Blu-ray players throughout the remainder of 2009. Toshiba abandoned the HD DVD format back in February of 2008 officially ceding the market to Blu-ray. Despite rumors that it would be back with an even more-advanced video format, Toshiba has taken the easier route and jumped into the Blu-ray market. Expect to see Blu-ray technology integrated into both standalone players and PCs offered by Toshiba. [via Yahoo Tech]
