You can already accept payments on an iPhone, and now it’s time to begin making them. Visa and DeviceFidelity have launched a new iPhone case/app that will bring the future of payments to your favorite phone. It may also bring future bankruptcy to a few unwitting users.

No longer get weighed down with a sleeve full of plastic; the In2Pay app allows you to swipe your iPhone at retailers that support contactless payment. The system includes an iPhone case that slips onto your phone and plugs into the dock connector. A microSD card slides into a slot in the case and a free app opens the world of payments via phone swiping. Users can unlock their credit cards with a password and wave their iPhone at those magical payment readers and boom!: you’re paid in full and on your way out the door. Also included on the case is a micro USB port for charging.

In2Play works with both the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Trials of the system will begin later this year.

When it’s all said and done, this seems like tech for the sake of tech (it’s not really that taxing to carry and swipe a credit or debit card, which you’ll still need to carry until contactless payments are accepted everywhere). But, it’s still pretty cool. [via MobileCrunch]
