I love multi-function. Why buy two devices, when you can get one that does two things?

But multi-function has its limits. When you try to combine two functions that just really don’t blend well, you get a “multi-functional” device that’s inferior to the sum of its parts. And then multi-function becomes anti-function.

And I’d have to say this here Acoustable seems like it tips the scales in favor of anti-function. Yes, you save some space by getting a speaker and a coffee table in one device. But the last time I looked, you want your speakers pointing directly at your ears, not at your kneecaps. And you probably also want a table that doesn’t rattle your glass right onto the floor.

So basically what you get with Acoustable is a crappy, muffled set of speakers and an ugly, drum-shaped, vibrating table.

The Acoustable includes Teac speakers, woofer and stereo amp integrated under the top. USB and iPod connections let you plug your portable music players directly in. There’s no word on price–or even if the Acoustable will be sold at all–but you can get more info at Acoustable.com. [Bornrich via Dvice]
