ona l The Japanese Tsunami: Five Jolting Videos

The Japanese earthquake and tsunami has been possibly the most well-documented tragedy in history. News organizations right down to private citizens with cell phones have shown us what it’s like to be in the center of a natural disaster. Here are the five videos that are most compelling.

In this video, you can see the tsunami actually catch on fire due to collecting oil and other flammable chemicals as it washed through.

Here we have a first-person perspective of the earthquake hitting.

This is the best video we’ve seen of the effects of the tsunami “on the ground”, so to speak. It gives you a sense of the degree of flooding that the coast experienced.

What did the average citizen experience, waiting for the earthquake to hit? This video offers up that perspective.

Finally, there’s this video, which offers a first person perspective on just how terrifying and damaging a tsunami can be. It starts small and ends with whole buildings washed away.

If you’d like to help with the humanitarian crisis in Japan, please consider donating to the Red Cross directly. Currently, that’s the most effective way of ensuring your money gets to Japan and spent on necessary food, water and medical supplies. Our thoughts are with the Japanese people as this crisis unfolds.
