It’s like the ultimate Christmas morning for tech geeks. Steve Jobs took the stage and wowed the crowd with the Apple tablet device–officially called the iPad. After taking a stab at netbooks–”they aren’t better at anything”, Jobs said that Apple has something better and pulled out the iPad.

Here’s what we’ve gleaned so far. It’s “way better than a laptop, way better than a smartphone”, and like the rumors said, it looks like a giant iPhone. It features a full, virtual keyboard on the bottom when needed. You can view a whole Web page and turn the device to view any way that you want. It includes a calendar and address book for contacts. It comes with iTunes built right in and is capable of viewing movies, TV shows, YouTube and YouTube HD. Photos and music are other focuses for the device.

Jobs is demonstrating the device now. We’ll have an update on the full specs, more pictures, etc. when we have more. [via Engadget ]
