iPad 2 – Steve Jobs wasn’t joking when he stood up on stage today and announced that the new iPad “is no toy… This is something you can use for real work.” It’s thinner, lighter, faster and made for people to not only consume content, but create it.
Today Jobs appeared in person to launch the latest technology. It was not only an amazing day for the new iPad but for everyone there, seeing as this could very well be one of Jobs last public appearances. What a better time to stand up and be proud of something than with the impressive iPad which is “1/3 thinner, 13.3% percent lighter rainbow-covered iPad 2″ according to TechCrunch who was live blogging the event.

Well here’s something that’s likely to get an unnamed Apple staffer in heaps of trouble should anyone ever find out who he is. On the eve of Apple’s iPad 2 event, said staffer basically came out and said “Nothing to see here. Come back next year.”
According to CultofMac, the Apple employee said: “For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high. That’s all I’m going to say. They’ve had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about.”

Well, if you’re a tech-a-holic, you were probably getting a little anxious. Because the iPad’s first birthday is coming up, and that means one thing: the iPad 2 is on the way! But it’s late February and no Apple event on the horizon.
Well rumors indicate that we won’t have to wait long. Apple is expected to hold a March 2 event, and reports (as well as rudimentary Apple awareness) are indicating that the event is all about the iPad 2.

Well, if you like to use your iPad for magazines or newspapers, you’ll soon be able to purchase subscriptions directly from the App Store, rather than buying by the issue. Apple announced its App Store subscription service today, which will be available to all “publishers of content-based apps on the App Store℠, including magazines, newspapers, video, music, etc.” The subscription service allows publishers to set their own price and subscription frequencies (weekly, monthly, etc.). Customers can select the subscription they want and will be automatically charged. Apple walks away with 30 percent of the deal.

9to5 Mac has done a little digging into the Apple’s latest SDK and has surmised that the iPad 2 won’t be getting a 5 MP camera on the back as had been speculated, but instead will have a much more modest camera in the range of 1 MP. In fact it may even share a .7-megapixel camera with the fourth-gen iPod Touch. Pretty disappointing for a high-end product like the iPad, but I reckon you won’t be taking too many snapshots/too much video with an unwieldy device like a tablet computer anyway. And at least it has some type of camera.
The iPad 2 will also get a front-facing camera with VGA resolution. That camera will enable the iPad to take advantage of Apple’s FaceTime app. [via 9to5 Mac]

What could be better than the perfect, glistening assets of blond 10s on the perfect, glistening screen of your iPad? Not much, so get ready for perfection. Playboy–Hugh Hefner himself, in fact–announced via a tweet that the entire catalog of Playboy will be available in digital form for iPad users beginning this March. And it will be uncensored.

Well the numbers are in, and to no one’s surprise, the iPad is a growing hit. And so are tablets in general..to a much smaller extent.
According to numbers by research firm IDC, the tablet market grew by 45 percent from Q2 to Q3 of last year. During the latter quarter, the iPad grabbed over 87 percent of the market–slightly down from its 90 percent share in the second quarter, but still a decisive chunk of the market. The iPad was almost entirely responsible for the tablet market’s growth at a time when tablets nearly doubled e-readers in sales.

Remember all that hype earlier this year about how digital devices–specifically the iPad–were the Godsend that the flailing print industry has been looking for? Suddenly, magazines, which have been failing one by one, were getting a big, sexy life raft: a small, portable, much-hyped, ultra-popular electronic tablet on which they could sell digital magazines, magazines that functioned as smoothly as their paper counterparts. The iPad brought a huge, growing market of tech-savvy, well-heeled customers that wanted content. What could be better?

We’re expecting a new iPad to hit the market around April of next year, a year after the first-generation iPad went live. And we’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about how Apple will address deficiencies of the current model (lack of cameras, for instance) and expand its iPad line.
The latest rumor originating on DigiTimes indicates that we’ll get not one or two versions of the iPad 2, but three. The three versions will be Wi-Fi-only, CDMA and UMTS, so the iPad will be compatible with all major 3G providers. Since the majority of current iPad sales are 3G models, Apple wants to offer more 3G solutions to buyers, so we should see a number of new 3G packages available through various providers.
