Are you getting the idea that Google is like a hyperactive child with ADD? Sure, they’re good at search, but that doesn’t mean they do everything well. Take Buzz. Or Wave. Or the Nexus One. Or Google TV. Slow your role, Google!
But like any hyperactive child, Google won’t sit still long enough for anyone to discipline it. So it’s on to yet another venture.
According to BusinessWeek, Google is considering getting into the finance business with a new payment service. Like other similar offerings, Google’s system would let your phone tap into the payment infrastructure with near-field communications (NFC). Drop the credit card and swipe your phone.

Technology can be quite tragic. Back in the spring when Google first announced Google TV, I and thousands/millions/billions of others were quite intrigued. Was this finally it? Television and Internet together in a functional, intuitive way? Finally? It certainly looked like Google had a shot what with applying its unparalleled search prowess to television and instituting features like dual view.
But then, when it finally came out, it was rather lackluster. Too expensive for a set-top box, not included on top-end TVs and falling short on both the content and interface sides. It wasn’t quite the end-all of Internet TV that we’d hoped. In fact, dollar for dollar, it was less intriguing than a Roku box.

After launching Google TV two months ago, Google is rolling out its first software update. The update will add a few new features to Google’s first TV product including an improved Netflix app that lets you search the entire Netflix catalog of shows and movies, customization options for Dual View that allow you to resize and move the windows around, Google TV Remote App for Android, which includes voice-based controls, and improved movie searches.

So after a little set-back, the Nexus S is here. And so is the next iteration of Android: Gingerbread.
Google and Samsung introduced the latest Android OS and the first piece of hardware that it will come standard on at a joint announcement today. The Nexus S features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, front- and rear-facing cameras, 16GB of internal memory, and NFC (near field communication) hardware. According to Google, it’s also the “first smartphone to feature a 4-inch Contour Display designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face.”

In an effort to speed up and streamline the Internet search process, Google has added a new feature it calls Instant Previews. If you’re the type that hates committing to a search result only to find out that it’s an absolute garbage site, this one’s for you. A new magnifying glass icon next to each search result gives you the ability to view a snapshot of the page, allowing you to size it up without actually having to navigate to it. You can even take advantage of Instant Previews without a mouse, navigating down with the down arrow and right with the right arrow.

In another indication that Samsung’s event next week will indeed be the Nexus Two, a rumor out of IntoMobile today indicates that next Thursday the 11th will mark the launch of Google’s Android Ginbread (2.3) SDK. The Nexus Two will undoubtedly sport the latest iteration of Android, so the timing seems perfect for everyone.

After the Nexus One failed so miserably earlier this year, despite all the hype that preceded it, I’d have thought that the Nexus name was dead. But not so according to a new rumor. There’s a Nexus Two in store. It’s manufactured by Samsung, bears the Google phone name and is coming in less than two weeks, November 8 to be exact. Samsung already had a press conference scheduled in NYC that day, and this big announcement is supposedly what it’s all about. Android and Me first reported this rumor based on conversations with multiple sources.

There must be a large and growing segment of the population that thinks that Google is slowly trying to take over the world. Despite its “no-evil” mantra, the company is increasingly involved in activities that could be described as evil, suspicious at best. They’re out there taking pictures of your street, your home and you; they all but control information on the Web and they’re pretty much everywhere that you are: in your phone, on your computer, on your television and in your car. It’s getting creepy.

After months of waiting, Google TV is finally official. Sony introduced its NSX-GT1 line of LCD televisions today, which will henceforth be called Google TVs (until another company launches its own Google TVs). That’s sure a lot catchier than Sony’s name: Sony Internet TV, powered by Google TV (ouch?).
The most interesting news: the leaked pricing that Sony Insider ran last week was off and the TVs are actually a lot cheaper than that, running just $599 for the 24-inch model, $799 for the 32-inch model, $999 for the 40-inch model and $1,399 for the 46-inch model. According to CNET, that puts the premium for Google TV at between $100 and $250, depending upon size.
