minidroid Motorola Determined To Find Out How Many Droids Constitutes Too Many: Droid Mini Rumored

We already have a Motorola Droid, Droid 2 and Droid X. And if you look over to HTC, we can throw in a Droid Incredible. All of these phones have been lauched within the past year, and all run on Verizon. We think that the world has more than enough options for Verizon Droids.

According to rumor, Motorola disagrees with us. Let’s say you like the slide-out Qwerty of the Droid/Droid 2 but are looking for something a little smaller and easier to slide in the pocket of your favorit jorts, Motorola’s thinking: Droid Mini. At least that’s what a fuzzy picture out of Korea showing a slim handset with the Droid’s red eyeball would indicate Motorola is thinking. The Droid Mini is looking like a small portrait phone with pull-out Qwerty.

The recently unveiled Motorola Droid X will be coming a little too early for Android 2.2. It will, however, get the upgrade before the summer’s out. New rumors today indicate that the next Droid in the family will be launching right in time to carry the Android 2.2 OS. While it’s not quite as much a heavyweight as the Droid X, the Droid 2 features a solid feature set similar to that of the original Droid and will reportedly ship with Android 2.2 when it hits the market on August 23.

motorola droid2 Motorola Droid 2 Leaks

The waves are really swelling over on the Motorola sea today. While we don’t yet have any pictures of the company’s 2GHz powerhouse, some pictures of the Droid 2 have leaked onto the interwebs. We heard late last month that two new Droid derivatives are on their way, and this is our first unofficial look at the Droid 2.

The Droid 2 is a slight evolution from the Droid 1 and features the same basic slide-out design and 3.7-inch display. The only physical changes appear to be the loss of the gangly touch pad on the right side and a more defined set of keys that replace the flat keys of the original Droid. The trackpad wasn’t a particularly popular feature and the new keys should make typing a little more familiar.

motorola droid shadow1 Droid Shadow to Get a Droid Brother, Launch on Verizon in July

We saw a clumsily-leaked Motorola Droid Shadow last week, and are likely to see an official introduction of this phone within the coming weeks. What we didn’t expect is that the Droid Shadow will arrive with a Droid-family brother. A report by the Wall Street Journal indicates that Motorola will be launching two brand new smartphones in July. Both will be Verizon exclusives.

Google Nexus One2 Android 2.2 Roll Out Gets Started: Nexus Ones Receiving Updates

Well, that was quick. When we first heard about Android 2.2, it was clear that it’d be a sizable leap up from previous Androids, but it wasn’t clear when exactly it would be available. Or which phones it would be available on. We didn’t have to wait very long for the answers–or the update.

Some of the original Nexus Ones have already been getting access to the over-the-air update as of this weekend. Members of the press that received original Nexus Ones at the unveil event back in early January were the first to enjoy the jump to 2.2. Less privileged Nexus One owners should be receiving the update within the coming weeks.

verizon motorola droid Motorola Droid Gets Android 2.1 This Week

The Droid may be kicking the Nexus One all over the field when it comes to sales numbers, but so far, the Nexus One has enjoyed at least one big advantage over its cousin: Android 2.1. That will officially change this week for Droid users. An over-the-air Android 2.1 update was given the go-ahead today and will start to hit the atmosphere on Thursday at 12 noon EDT. The update will go out in several batches of 250,000, so customers will get it sooner or later. Impatient Droid users should also be able to get the update manually.

Flurry Sales Flurry Releases New Numbers on IPhone v. Droid v. Nexus One

Back in January, Flurry provided a first week Nexus One sales number of 20,000. Not very impressive. Not very impressive at all. So how has the handset done since then? Not very impressive. Not very impressive at all.

According to new numbers from the analytics firm, the Nexus One sold 135,000 in its first 74 days. While 75 days or 90 days would seem like more fitting numbers to use for tracking, Flurry chose 74 because that’s how long it took the iPhone to sell one million units. The Nexus One isn’t even in the same city, let alone ballpark.

Droid 21 Motorola Droid Update Coming With Multitouch

According to report on Engadget this morning, the next Motorola Droid update is in testing at Verizon and it will go a long way toward sealing the gap between it and the Nexus One. The new update is identified as Android 2.1 version 1 and will offer enhanced features including a multitouch-enabled browser, Google Goggles, and news and weather widgets.

Google released an update for the Nexus One last week. While the Droid will enjoy some of the same upgraded features of the Nexus one, such as browser multitouch and Google Goggles, it won’t get the 3D home screen that Nexus One users enjoy.
