Yahoo and Microsoft finalized their search deal today after regulators gave the green light. The deal was okayed in both the U.S. and European Union. Originally announced last summer, the move is a strategic partnership designed to cut costs and fight the well-known market leader: Google. Google has a hold on about 70 percent of the U.S. search market and now Yahoo/Microsoft will grab most of the remaining pie. And they’re still pretty hungry.

It looks like Google is getting serious with its social networking efforts this time around. The company announced Buzz just days ago and today it acquired Aardvark, a social networking site that allows users to search for answers to their questions within their network of contacts–as if general Internet population information wasn’t sketchy enough. According to Aardvark’s website–vark.com–ask a question, Aardvark finds the “perfect person” to answer and you get your answer within minutes. The company was founded in part by two ex-Googlers.
