Apple quietly released its MacBook update today. The new laptop gets a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and an upgraded battery that delivers 10 hours of work time (up from 7). Despite the upgrades, the MacBook stays at the same $999 price. The MacBook also features NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, a 250 GB hard drive and 2 GB of DDR3 memory. The outside remains the same, featuring a polycarbonate unibody case.

According to VentureBeat and  “multiple sources,” Acer is preparing to launch several devices that run on Google’s Chrome OS. The company will unveil these mysterious new devices at Computex Taipei show early next month (June 1-5). It’s not yet known what exactly the devices will look like or even what type of devices they will be, though Chrome OS was designed to run primarily on netbooks, so these won’t likely be tablets.
