Sylvania Speaker Light Bulbs Make Your Lamps Sing
By Chris Weiss
I can’t say I’m too excited to experience what a speaker built into a Sylvania light bulb has to offer in terms of quality audio, but I am intrigued about the idea behind these MusicLites. Designed to be popped into your lamp or light fixture, the LED bulb puts out the equivalent of a 65-Watt incandescent bulb and also throws out 25 Watts of sound. The speakers are wireless with a range up to 90 feet, making surround sound as easy as screwing in a light bulb.
Audio manufacturer Klipsch has a similar bulb-speaker for sale. If I was a bettin’ man, I’d say that Klipsch’s system will sound a whole lot better, but Sylvania’s will retail for well below its $600 cost. And Sylvania’s might offer better quality light, since that’s what they do and all. Hell, I am a bettin’ man, so that’s what I’m throwing my chips down on.
This system would be great for those that want a simple solution to music in various rooms of their homes without the mess and expense of a complicated audio system or multiple mini-systems. Imagine skipping around the house, plugging every fixture full of speakers and enjoying music all over. Utopia. [Oh Gizmo! via Dvice]
