Sprint/Clearwire Expand 4G Coverage and Hardware
By Chris Weiss
In addition to yesterday’s exciting reveal of the HTC EVO, Sprint and its WiMax partner Clearwire detailed plans of network expansion and other upcoming hardware. Since new hardware is a moot point if you don’t have any coverage, we’ll start with the expansion. In addition to the 27 current markets and eight additional markets announced a few weeks ago, Sprint hopes to extend service to Cincinnati, Cleveland, LA, Miami, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and St. Louis by the end of 2010.
As for hardware, Clearwire will offer a WiMax version of the Dell Mini 10 netbook. It’s will cost a subsidized price of $250 (with 4G contract and instant rebate) when it hits the market on April 1. Clearwire will also offer a next-generation version of its Clear Spot mobile router later this year. [via Electronista and Clearwire]
