Sprint To Extend 4G To 8 Additional Cities By Year End

The slow trek to 4G coverage continues. Last week when Sprint detailed plans to launch its first 4G handset this summer, the company mentioned that by the end of the year a number of cities including New York and San Francisco would be added to the list of 27 cities currently enjoying WiMax 4G coverage. Today, Sprint spelled out the exact number, and we think the mystery was actually more intriguing. Only 8 additional cities will get the 4G treatment during 2010: Boston, Denver, Kansas City, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Don’t see your city on the list? Expect another full year of Sprint 3G. But wait: even Sprint realized that a generic “some more” is better than a solid number 8, and added that it plans to slip a couple of more markets onto the list before year-end. It didn’t provide any clues as to what other cities would be involved, so there’s still hope. Just don’t expect too much. [via MobileCrunch]
