We in the states had gadget envy when the HTC Hero was being flaunted overseas, but now Sprint announced that it will take the smartphone under its wing and deliver it to U.S. customers. That makes the HTC Hero Sprint’s first Android-powered phone, giving people a little more exposure to Google’s mobile operating system. The HTC Hero has a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, a 5 MP camera with auto-focus, AGPS, a digital compass and a gravity sensor. There’s just 512 MB of storage inside, with a microSD slot allowing for expansions, and the phone is powered by a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor. Sprint will start selling the HTC Hero on October 11, for $179 after a $100 mail-in rebate and the usual two-year service agreement. [via Wall Street Journal]
