Sony announced its interest in building its own tablet device earlier today. CFO Nobuyuki Oneda stated at a press conference: “That is a market we are also very interested in. We are confident we have the skills to create a product.”

It looks like other players in the tablet market like HP, Dell, MSI, and of course, Apple will have competition from yet another major manufacturer.

It’s still way too early to tell exactly what type of device Sony will offer, but Apple did leave the door open for some obvious improvements (multitasking, Flash support, etc.). Oneda went on to explain that the tablet is still a little ways down the road: “Time-wise we are a little behind the iPad but it’s a space we would like to be an active player in.”

With all these other tablet announcements popping up, you’ve got to start thinking about your options. Will you buy an iPad in March or April, wait to see what the competitors offer or stick with the desktop/laptop/netbook that you’re already using? [via Computerworld
