sonyvaio x Sony Drops Three New VAIOs

Bring on the Windows 7, multi-touch hardware. The latest Windows 7 computers to be unveiled are a trio of VAIOs from Sony, including Sony’s first multi-touch offerings. The highlight of the release is the 11-inch VAIO X netbook crossover, which Sony is calling the lightest notebook ever. This sleek little number makes use of a carbon fiber shell to bring weight down to just 1.6 lbs and is a razor-like .55-inch thick over the entire length. Other highlights include multi-touch functions such as pinching and rotating and 14 hours of run time delivered from a second, extended battery pack that comes with each X–quadruple the 3.5 hours that the stock battery is good for. Prices start at $1,300 and the units will ship next month.

Sony also introduced the VAIO L PC and VAIO CW notebook. The first supports Windows 7 multi-touch functions such as scrolling and zooming. The L begins at $1,300 for the 24-inch, 1080p screen with 2.7 GHz Pentium dual core and will ship in November. The CW upgrade is a 16:9, 14-inch display mid-range notebook. An $850 version will include a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs of RAM and a 320 GB hard drive. A $750 version of the CW is supposed to be the entry point of the line. The CW will be the first of the new VAIOs to ship in late October.

Preorders are available now for all the new VAIO models. [via Electronista]
