Sony Announces First Google TV
By Chris Weiss
Two weeks ago, when launch reports about the Logitech Google TV box were scribed, I couldn’t help but pine for an announcement about actual Google TVs. I don’t need another stupid set-top box, but I am in the market for a new TV and would like to see what Google TVs are all about before buying. Well, I (and probably millions of others) have finally gotten that wish. Sony announced this week that it will be unveiling the first Google TV at an NYC event on October 12. Some leaks have revealed a little information about the new set.
The first set will be a 46-inch model–NSX-46GT1. It will use an Intel Atom processor, will include both an Android interface and Chrome browser, and will capitalize on Google’s bread-and-butter in the form of a powerful search engine–something modern televisions have been needing for a long time now. That search will even include a voice-based component. Developers will also be invited to build apps for the TV-based interface.
Unfortunately, one of the most important factors–price–has not been speculated quite yet. Hopefully Sony will have that and plenty of details on October 12. [via SonyInsider]
