Verizon eNV 2 Smartphones Now Make Up 28% of Cell Phones

With competition boiling, features expanding and prices dropping, it’s not surprising that many people are dropping those traditional, one-dimensional cell phones for the increased functionality and flashiness of smartphones. According to research by NPD Group, smartphones now make up 28% of all mobile phones sold in the U.S. This represents a 47% year-over-year increase and is based on data from the spring. At the top of the heap sit the Apple iPhone 3G and Blackberry Curve series phones. Simpler phones like the Verizon LG enV2 and the Sprint Samsung Rant also showed strong sales. Analysts expect these trends to continue as prices drop and hardware/software gets more refined. [via Electronista]
