Self-Sanitizing Keyboard–$900 of Obsessive Compulsive Goodness
By Chris Weiss
Ever feel like the workplace makes you feel like the lowest rung on the ladder? At least they don’t automatically scrub your keyboard down after every time you touch it. Man does that have a way of tearing apart a guy’s feeling of self worth. This keyboard by Vioguard lives in its own little box o’ germ destruction and slides in and out via a motor. Activation of the motorized mechanism is handled through an infrared sensor that detects motion when you need to enter a little data, thereby eliminating the need to physically touch the pristine, sanitary device. Your dirty paws can stay as far away as possible. Sanitization is taken care of by UV.
If you think this is over-the-top, consider a few scenarios. First, there’s the obvious need in medical and industrial applications where people are constantly coming into contact with harmful bacteria and contaminants. Second, imagine having to share your only computer with a hyper-horny adolescent who spent a lot of time working on his “secret project” in the dark with the door locked. Pretty sure you’d be happy that the keyboard was undergoing some intense UV burn before your delicate digits made contact.
Vioguard’s $900 price tag means that you’ll probably have to continue to bear the nightmares of exactly what you’re touching when you type that report. Check it out in action below. [via Dvice]
