Hillary clinton Secretary of State Calls on China to Investigate Attack

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton threw in her two cents on the China/Google affair today, calling on China to investigate the cyberattack. Clinton also showed support of Google’s stance, stating that companies should refuse “politically-motivated censorship”. The remarks came in a speech centered around the Internet and freedom of information. The speech was made at the Newseum journalism museum in Washington.

The news should add even more credence to Google’s case, which has been boosted by a variety of security companies and investigators who have linked the cyberattack to the Chinese.

Clinton stated: “Countries or individuals that engage in cyber attacks should face consequences and international condemnation.”

The speech will likely increase tension between the U.S. and China. For its part, China has sought to downplay the entire episode and has stated that it should not interfere with Chinese/U.S. relations. [via BBC] [Photo: sskennel]
