Saturday: Mad Dash for Facebook URLs
By Jared Newman
If you’re a Facebook fanatic and want to be found on search engines, make sure you’re around at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time on Saturday. That’s when the social networking site will start allowing vanity URLs as an alternative to the current indecipherable combination of numbers. The URLs will be displayed as www.facebook.com/yourname, using a combination of numbers, letters and a period. To prevent the hording of names, people who signed up to Facebook after 3 p.m. EST on May 31 must wait until after the initial name grab to claim their custom URLs. Should you take part in the shift, choose your name wisely; no changes are allowed once you’ve made the switch. [Facebook via CNet]
