Samsung Puts Out Roller-Coaster-Style Warnings for 3DTV
By Chris Weiss
Samsung has apparently released some warnings about 3DTV, stating that pregnant women, those enjoying alcohol (and presumably other mind-altering substances) and the elderly should stay away from 3DTV. In other words, 3DTV is now light years less useful than it was before.
I mean seriously, don’t watch it while drinking? Considering that sports will be among the first programming available on 3DTV, and people tend to have more than a beer or two when watching sports, this warning alone seems to drastically marginalize the usefulness of 3D. And pregnant women and the elderly?
Oh, we almost forgot, Samsung also warned against watching 3D while tired. Yeah, no one’s ever tired when watching TV, shouldn’t be an issue at all. Also, children and teens are more susceptible to issues and should be closely monitored.
Can anyone watch these boxes safely? Should the $3,000 TV set you just bought be a secondary TV reserved for virile, young adult men and women only?
So what could happen if you ignore these warnings? Samsung cites a series of symptoms including but not limited to dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, confusion and convulsions. A Seinfeld-style epileptic seizure is also a possibility. Samsung warns to stop watching 3D and contact a doctor if you feel any of these symptoms.
Wow, so 3DTV can make you sick. I wasn’t particularly sold on 3DTV to begin with, but with this set of warnings, I’m even less excited. And if you think I’m exxaggerating, just look at Samsung’s page, it’s far more detailed than I’ve gotten into. [High-Def Digest via CrunchGear ] [Photo: Christian Haugen]
