You know how many times that I’ve wanted to navigate my way out of the living room on my old Toshiba? Not a single one. Even when I’m watching wonderful and exotic programs about vacation destinations around the country, I’ve never, ever had a hankering to try to map my way there with my remote control. Not once.

But just in case you ever do, Samsung is giving you the capability of Google Maps on Web-connected TVs that run Samsung Apps. So now you can get all map-crazy up on your TV set.

Facebook is arguably more useful, and some people may want to connect with their Facebook chums while watching TV, but this has the rancid stench of tech for the sake of tech. I can understand the attraction of having broad Web access ala Google TV or apps for TV-relevant sites like YouTube and Netflix, but Facebook and Google Maps can really stay put on my computer and mobile phone.

I reckon we’ll be seeing more of dubious additions like this as companies attempt to catch up with Google TV. [via Slippery Brick]
