RIM to Introduce App World 2.0
By Chris Weiss
The Blackberry may not be up to snuff with Apple or Android as far as apps, but Blackberry App World has been slowly trudging along, bringing applications to business’ favorite smartphone. The one-year-old App World is about to get updated at RIM’s WES conference.
RIM said that the new App World will come preloaded on all Blackberry models running Blackberry OS 5.0 +, beginning with the Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G. Until now, users wishing to use the app market had to download App World manually.
Other changes include Wi-Fi compatibility (the current version requires network data coverage for downloads) and an option for developers to add microtransactions– incremental payments for additional app content (i.e. extra levels of a game available for an additional payment over the game’s base price). RIM also plans to introduce credit card and carrier billing as payment options for apps. Currently, users must use PayPal to purchase apps. [via CNET and MobileBurn]
