blackberry playbook RIM May Undercut Apple With Sub $500 Pricing

When we saw the Blackberry PlayBook last month, we had hoped that RIM would see fit to offer it below the price of the iPad, though we were skeptical that the company actually would. The PlayBook offers a nice set of features that sets it apart from the iPad, but seems to fall short of the overall iPad experience/sexiness. Kind of like the Blackberry to the iPhone. But price the PlayBook below the iPad and all of a sudden advantages like video chat, Flash and enterprise start to look that much more refined against Apple’s market leader.

Well, according to Business Week, RIM may in fact price the PlayBook below the iPad. Of course, all that RIM officially said is that the PlayBook will be priced “under $500,” which could mean that it’s 99 cents more than the iPad at $499.99. Let’s just hope that RIM puts more weight on the term “under.” We’ll see sometime soon; the PlayBook’s first quarter launch is drawing near. [via Business Week]
