Report: Foxconn’s Making the Rumored Apple Tablet

Those shady, unnamed sources are at it again, talking about how the Apple Tablet is set to arrive in the first quarter of 2010. DigiTimes, the Taiwanese tech rumormonger extraordinaire, reports that the maker of these fabled devices will be Foxconn. That would not earth-shattering news, as the company already produces the iPod and the iPhone. Who else would you entrust to a device that’s supposedly like a larger version of the iPod Touch?
In any case, you probably don’t care about who’s making the device. Most important are the details, which themselves are scarce, and may or may not be true. Digitimes’ sources say the tablet will have a 10.6-inch display, and that a primary focus will be e-reader capabilities, not music (although we can hardly remember when Apple’s gadgets were mainly about music). Key marketing angles will be ease of use, quick Internet connectivity and long battery life. No word on the use of dancing silhouettes or beautiful hipsters in their mid-20s.
The sources didn’t say anything on price, though the going rate in the rumor mill these days is $700. One more thing: DigiTimes says other manufacturers, such as HP, are expected to follow suit once Apple comes clean with its device, but we don’t need super-secret sources to know that. [via DigiTimes]
