Rambler Socket: The Traveling Power Socket that Extends Your Cords
By Chris Weiss
The Rambler Socket joins us just a tad too late to be a Christmas gift from well-intentioned husbands to angry, unreceptive wives that resent the intimation that household chores make for delightful gift themes. Alas, it’s just a concept anyway and said men will be saved from the ensuing anguish for the foreseeable future.
The concept, designed by Meysam Movahedi, is a sort of extension cord that is integrated into your wall. So while you’re busy vacuuming the floor or talking on your cell phone as it charges, the socket moves with you instead of spitting your cord out. Need a little extra cordage? Pinch the sides of the socket and pull out up to 1.5 meters worth. Once you’re done, it recoils back up and sits back inside the wall plate.
While it seems like an interesting innovation, it doesn’t provide much that you couldn’t get with a regular extension cord and would probably be difficult and expensive to install. And instead of having to just worry about lil’ Joey sticking a fork into the socket, now you’d also have to worry about him walking around with the power outlet and dunking it into a cup of OJ.
