Radio Shack Becomes “The Shack”, Still Carries a Small Selection of Junk
Aug 05, 2009 - By Chris Weiss
Why do corporations we know and love continue to waste our time with meaningless branding changes? First we have to get used to calling Pizza Hut “The Hut” when we’re too lazy to go out and buy a real pizza, and now we have to go to the local “Shack” rather than Radio Shack when searching for odd, tiny electrical components that no one else seems to carry. While I don’t understand either, “The Shack” really doesn’t seem to be a wise decision. Nothing says “come buy the latest technology” like the image of a tiny, delapidated building with 19th century roof threatening to cave in and rip that clearance-aisle boombox straight from your bony fingers. The change will officially take place tomorrow with the “Shack Summer Netogether”, an event that centers around dropping a massive, 17-foot laptop in both Times Square in NYC and Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco. So yeah…there’s something to look forward to for your week. [Gizmodo via Slash Gear] [Photo: Joe Shlabotnik]
