internets Qwests Top DSL Speeds Double in Some Cities

In an attempt to keep up with the Joneses — and by that we mean cable companies — Qwest is doubling the speed of its top-tier Internet packages in some cities. The plan provides 40 mbps download speeds and 20 mbps upload speeds in 15 cities, including Denver; Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.; Salt Lake City; Seattle and Vancouver, Wash.; and Minneapolis/St. Paul. The so-called VDSL2 technology works in areas where Qwest has upgraded its fiber optics network, and the company is trying to expand the faster speeds to other areas over the next few months. Not to be outdone, cable is working on technology that reaches download speeds of 50 mbps or more. None of it will come cheap; Qwest’s top-shelf plan, when you throw in phone service, costs $110 per month for the first year. How about competing on price instead, y’all? [via Yahoo!]
