Sony Ericsson is hinting that its first Android smartphone will be unveiled on November 3, but there’s already enough information on the XPeria X10, a.k.a. the Infinity, to know what it’s all about. Let’s start with the specs: According to Android Guys, the Sony Ericsson Infinity has a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a whopping 4.1-inch OLED touch screen and an 8.1-megapixel camera (with touch focus, smile shutter, face detection and ISO settings). Those are some nice numbers and figures, but what will really seal the deal is the Infinity’s custom user interface, code named “Project Rachael.”

Project Rachael, which you can see in a YouTube video walkthrough, is pretty airy. At the top level, you can swipe between a few different home pages, such as one for weather, another for photos and another for contacts. There are also four hot buttons at the bottom for common functions, such as the phone dialer and text messaging. Swiping upwards along that bottom bar pulls up a full selection of apps, arranged in a grid similar to that of the iPhone. There also appears to be some neat Facebook, Twitter and text message integration built right into your contacts list, letting you swipe between each messaging service to see your friends’ most recent updates. Sony Ericsson’s “What’s Next” teaser site hints an announcement for November 3, so stay tuned. [via Android and Me]
