Panasonic LED Lightbulb Rated at 19 Years
By Chris Weiss
It’s pretty difficult to get too excited about a household light bulb, but this one is worth a palpitation or two. Panasonic is set to release the EverLed series of light bulbs–the most efficient LEDs ever produced– next month in Japan. The bulbs use 1/8 the power of an incandescent and are said to get up to 19 years of burn time–roughly 40 times more than the incandenscent sitting in your lamp right now. The screw-in bulbs work with existing incandescent hardware, so no additional equipment is needed. Unfortunately, the bulbs will be limited to the Japanese market as LED light bulbs haven’t caught on too big due to their high price–the retail is rumored around $40 for this one. Panasonic produces about 50% of the light bulbs used in Japan, and is hoping that introducing the EverLed bulbs will help LED bulbs catch fire and gain a little reputation and market share.
