Palm Pixi Coming to Sprint Next Month, $100
By Chris Weiss
For one reason or another, the Palm Pre simply hasn’t lived up to the hype that surrounded it for months on end. The creepy, surrealĀ commercials were partly to blame, sending innumerable customers running to Apple and other manufacturers. And understandably so. Others were stymied by the Pre’s $200 price tag. While there’s no winning back those that relate Palm to the freaky blond in the TV spots, the price is something that Palm is tackling with the Pixi. A poor man’s Pre, the Pixi will be available on November 15 for $99.99. Of course, that price is after a $50 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate, so be prepared to cough up the same $200 when you first buy the phone. Buyers will also need to commit to two years of Sprint service. The Pixi will be available online, through Sprint stores, at Best Buys, Radio Shacks and Walmarts.
Like the Pre, the Pixi combines a capacitive multitouch display with full Qwerty keyboard. Other specs include a 2MP camera, GPS and Palm Synergy, which combines feeds from multiple social networking sites into one. The phone supports a variety of Web tools including Facebook, LinkedIn, Google and Yahoo.
Palm and Sprint hope that the similar features and lower price of the Pixi will help it to flourish amidst stiffening competition in the smartphone market. [via Channel Web]
