Overhaul Skype On Mac, Win a Better Mac

Skype for Mac is a bit…lacking. Everyone knows it: the users know it, Apple knows it, and Skype knows it. It’s a real problem that needs a solution, and Skype has decided that you might as well crowdsource it instead of doing it in house.

After all, the prizes are cheaper than paying for a professional designer, and they are really neat.

The contest opens in a week, but they’re encouraging you to get started right now, with a few ideas and, of course, prizes.

There are three classes of prizes: the Judge’s Choice (three of them) get an iPad 2, a copy of CSS 3 for web development, and an unlimited subscription to Skype. The People’s Choices get the CSS 3 and the unlimited subscription, but they only get an Apple TV, thus disproving the value of democracy.

The Grand Prize? Your theme is actually used in Skype, an 11″ Macbook Air, an iPad 2, and an unlimited Skype subscription. Apparently CSS 3 is only a booby prize.

So, basically, you can work for free and possibly get something out of it, or at least know that you’re trying to fix Skype when it’s busted. You know, something Skype thinks it can do on the cheap.
