Twitter for iPhone Official Twitter For iPhone Launched

Twitter now has an official app on the iPhone. Last month, Twitter purchased Tweetie, an existing Twitter-based iPhone app and has transformed it into its own app called Twitter 3.0 (the 3.0 gives a little recognition to the Tweetie versions before it). The move was part of a greater Twitter strategy to discourage third-party Twitter apps and take the reins of all Twitter products.

Not only does the new, free app get a little more authority and a name change, it gets a few upgrades. The search feature has been changed to include Top Tweets in results and to allow users to search all tweets and find users in the same spot, browse suggested users and view Top Tweets. Those that wish to take advantage of the app without signing up for a Twitter account will now be able to perform actions like reading top tweets and finding popular users without signing up. Users can also sign-up for an account within the app. Other minor organization changes and tweaks are also a part of the new app, including movement of popular actions like Retweet to the main actions bar.
