Numbers Show Macs Selling Slightly Better Than Expected
By Chris Weiss
According to new data from research firm NPD, Mac sales are up 7 % from last year for July and August, exceeding 5% growth expectations set by investors. If the numbers remain consistent, Apple will round out the quarter with 2.75 to 2.8 million Macs sold, right around theĀ 2.75 million expected by Wall Street. Analyst Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray, however, expects the numbers will be even higher. Ipod sales, on the other hand, have taken a year-over-year hit of 16 % and Munster expects them to sell 9.5 to 10.5 million units during the quarter, right in line with Wall Street’s 10 million. On the bright side, the recently-announced, new-and-improved iPod Nano should help boost the numbers toward the end of the quarter. International sales have also shown growth for both the iPod and Mac. [via AppleInsider]
