nokia Nokia To Launch Mobile Banking

In news that sounds simultaneously intriguing and potentially-devastating, Nokia is planning on launching a mobile banking service that allows people to make payments over their cell phones. World’s largest cell phone provider is seeking to diversify into what it sees as a “market opportunity with long term growth potential.” In a statement, Nokia described the purpose of the service called Nokia Money: “to send money to another person just by using the person’s mobile phone number, as well as to pay merchants for goods and services, pay their utility bills, or recharge their pre-paid SIM cards.” Nokia is building up a network of agents to handle deposits and withdrawals. The service will be available 24 hours a day beginning in 2010.[via Yahoo Tech]
