No Nook Under Your Tree–B&N Sells Out of Nooks for the Holidays

It looks like Barnes & Noble has taken a page from Nintendo’s book. It’s still a week before Thanksgiving, holiday shopping hasn’t even gained full steam and reports are that the bookseller has sold out of its highly anticipated, dual-screen Nook e-reader. B&N cites excessive preorders as ravaging its Nook supply.

Those that now order Nook can expect to have it just in time for… the week of January 4. Thank goodness. To prevent Nook givers from having nothing to wrap up and place under the tree, B&N is offering some form of Nook holiday certificate–kind of like when your parents gave you a picture of the bike they were planning on buying you for your birthday sometime in the future. Boy was that birthday a blast. If I were B&N (or one giving the certificate), I’d put it in a long, slim, e-reader-shaped box just to have a good Scrooge-like holiday chuckle.

Amazon, who suffered similar struggles last year, has plenty of Kindles on-hand to handle the holiday rush. Score one for them. [via NY Times Bits]
