Nintendo Wii Hits 30 Million Sold
By Chris Weiss
In the months before the onset of some serious competition, the Nintendo Wii continues to sell well. A little over a year after reaching 20 million units sold, Nintendo has reached the 30 million sold. And that’s just in the U.S. Perhaps even more impressive, the console made this dent in just 45 months on the market, continuing its reign as the fastest-selling console ever.
I’d certainly love to sell something…anything at a rate of 10 million per 15 months. The rate puts it a full 15 months ahead of the next best-selling console. If its pace continues, it’ll have sold another 10 million units by that time.
But that’s a big “if.” Today is good news for Nintendo, but bad news is lurking just around the corner. Playstation Move and Microsoft Kinect will be bringing some first-ever competition to the motion-based gaming market beginning this fall. And with no new tricks of its own, sales will likely slow down in Wii land. [via Slippery Brick]
