Nintendo 3D System Won’t Be Called “3DS”
By Chris WeissWe knew it wasn’t the official name from the start, though it was becoming quite fashionable to call Nintendo’s upcoming 3D portable system ’3DS’. After all, DS + 3D = 3DS, how could the company not call it that? It’s so obvious.
Apparently, it’s too obvious. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata was quoted at a Q&A session as stating: “”We’ve said that it will be released during this term, so the announcement of the formal name will not be too far off.” The comment came in response to a question about the name. While it doesn’t entirely rule out 3DS, it would be a little odd for Nintendo to make a big deal about the official name release and then just call it the same name everyone’s already been using.
Iwata also confirmed that the new system will feature 2D/3D switching for those that don’t wish to play in 3D.
Nintendo will reveal all the details of the system-formerly-expected-to-be-known-as-3DS at the E3 conference next month. [via 1 UP]
