Yesterday, Google announced an over-the-air update for the Nexus One. While multitouch was the headline-maker, the update also promised to offer a more bread-and-butter fix: helping to correct shoddy 3G coverage that has hampered the Nexus One since its debut last month. That fix came with one big caveat: it was only going to help “some” Nexus One users.

According to an article on BetaNews, Nexus One users initially reported stronger signal strength when the update began making the rounds today. However, subsequent reports indicated that 3G speeds were only improved slightly and dropped 3G coverage continued to be a problem. So far, it looks like the fix is not that effective at addressing 3G problems.

Other users have indicated positive results from the update including better 3G connectivity, smooth multitouch and better responsiveness.

Note that Google just began sending out the update and other Nexus One users will be getting it throughout  the week. Perhaps the “some” that Google refers to are contained in the yet-to-receive batch. [via BetaNews]

Multi-touch is really responsive, 3G speeds seem to be slightly increased but like you said dropped 3G coverage continues to be a problem for me. I hope they finally get it down because the main reason why I got the phone is for internet use and Edge does not do it for me, I'm really wanting to sell and wait for the CDMA version to use it with Verizon.
