Walmart Nexus One Nexus One to Be Available Through Walmart, $99 With 2 Years?

It looks like Google’s exclusive offering of the Nexus One will be rather short-lived. Walmart has put up a Nexus One page on its wireless website, indicating that the retail giant will soon be in the Google business. Perhaps, Google is hoping that Walmart can handle a few of its customer complaints.

The phone isn’t yet available for purchase through Walmart, but has a “Coming Soon” tattoo on it.

Also of note, the Walmart page indicates that the phone will be compatible with UMTS/HSDPA, 1xRTT and 1xEvDO, meaning that it could work on networks other than T-Mobile, including AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

A rumor also puts Walmart’s Nexus One price as low as $99 with two-year service contract. That’s well below the $179 that a two-year T-Mobile deal would secure.

The $99 price tag would definitely make the Nexus One more attractive. Of course, that low price is just speculation at the moment. [AndroidandMe via PC World]

How would a profit be made on selling a prepaid smartphone at $100?
