New Intel Core i7 and i5 Processor News Leaked
By Jared Newman
Like processors? Some information on Intel’s latest chips is coming out of Japan that should strike your fancy. Two additions to the i7 line are under development, but in a new 800 series. The quad-core, 2.8 GHz 860 and the 2.93 GHz 870 are Lynnfield processors under Intel’s Nehalem architecture, built around eight threads. Then, there’s the 2.66 GHz i5 750. One of the first of Intel’s i5 models, it’s built around just four threads, therefore able to handle simultaneous multithreading. The thermal design power rating for all three processors is 95 W, but there’s also talk of lower-power processors, running at 82 W. Look for the new processors in the first quarter of 2010, should these reports pan out. [Impress via Electronista]
