New Apple Touchscreen Patent Could Cut Size, Cost of Touch
By Chris WeissA patent filed by Apple and uncovered by Patently Apple, points to a new form of multitouch technology that is underway in Cupertino. The new technology would include a touch interface built into the main display rather than layered on top of it, essentially combining two separate pieces into one. Such a design would help to decrease the ever-important spec of thickness, while also making touchscreens less expensive to produce.
The new technology is being developed by a group of Apple engineers responsible for working on multitouch for the iPhone. The group is led by Stephen Hotelling.
So, if this patent is any solid indication, will the next-generation of iPhone be super-slim and less expensive? We can only hope the tech materializes in a concrete way. [via NY Times Bits]
